Dealing With SPAM
SPAM Assassin and your TCN Based Email Account
You may
have noticed recently that your incoming Email has been
showing up with "**SPAM** tagged in the subject line.
As of
June 24th, 2005 - TCN has finished it server wide installation of
SPAM Assassin onto our main mail server.
What SPAM Assassin (SA) does is inspect each Email message
to see if it looks like it could be SPAM. If it determines
that it is a likely SPAM it appends the tag "**SPAM** to the
subject line of that message and passes it on to the
intended recipient. Neither SA or TCN remove or delete any
message from the the server during this process - we simply
try to properly identify SPAM.
Once the SPAM has been tagged most Email programs allow the
end user to set up filters or rules that will automatically
place SPAM into a separate folder so it can be reviewed
periodically and disposed of - out of the way of "Real"
Email. Some programs even allow you to set up automatic
deletion after so many days - thus fully automating the
process.
Note1: If you receive an Email improperly tagged as SPAM
just send the Email address to
webmaster@tcninternet.com with the subject line of
"White List" and we will place the address
in the SA White List. After that, SA will ignore any mail
from that sender and pass it on un-tagged..
Note2:
Currently TCN does not screen your Email for viruses or
other malware that could damage your computers or networks.
Due diligence should be taken to have current, properly
updated, antivirus protection on any system that receives
and view Email.
